Licensed Psychologist Available to Meet with You
Frances Parks, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist who has a special interest in working with seniors and is able to accept Medicare payment for services. She works with persons dealing with issues of life transitions, anxiety, depression, and loss and grief. She received her doctorate from the U. of Texas and recently completed the Certificate in Gerontology at the University of Washington. The Social Workers at the Senior Center of West Seattle are available by appointment Monday – Friday.  They provide assistance with the following:

  • applications for senior housing
  • utility discount programs
  • in-home support/outreach program
  • transportation programs
  • family counseling and support related to aging
  • referrals and followup with community agencies are provided as needed.

Our Outreach program provides intensive in-home case management for elders, including volunteers for additional in-home support in special situations.

Aging Well

Are you feeling overwhelmed by changes in your health, relationships, housing, mobility, or income? Looking for ways to make new connections, communicate, increase self-esteem, manage anxiety, cultivate acceptance? You are not alone. This is an ongoing group for exploring issues of change, loss and life transitions. Share stories, learn coping strategies, give and receive support. All sharing is confidential.

Caregiver Support Program Free!
3:00 – 4:30 pm
Every 4th Wednesday of the Month (July 26 & August 23)
Facilitator: Daria Sawochka of Sound Generations Caregiver Support Program

Come share your challenges, frustrations, successes with other caregivers who “get it.” The experience exchange among caregivers will provide you with free peer support on a monthly basis and might just give you an energy boost to keep you at your best.

Diabetic Support Group 
3:30 – 4:30 pm
Thursday, July 27 & August 24
Facilitator: Toni Ameslav, MSW
Open to all people dealing with or affected by diabetes.  Topics to include nutrition, food care and vision care.  If you are diabetic or pre-diabetic, have a friend or family member who is, or are simply interested in the topic, please come and bring friends!

Low Vision Support Group
1:00 – 2:00 pm
Second Wednesday of every month (on hiatus in July and August 2017)

Open to all people dealing with vision problems. During our group, we share tips on managing our lives with vision loss, share resources and support one another. We often have outside speakers presenting to us and sharing various enhancing equipment.
