Legacy Giving
“A society grows great when elders plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” ~ Greek proverb
Every year, over 4,000 seniors pass through the doors of the Senior Center of West Seattle. They come for classes, meals, entertainment, and community. As they do, they leave a legacy and make this community their own. By supporting the Senior Center with a planned/legacy gift, you can leave a legacy of your own ensuring we are able to innovate, adapt, and meet the needs of future generations.
What is a Legacy Gift?
A legacy gift is a bequest — a gift included in your last will and testament. A bequest can be for a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, and/or a specific piece of property. Here is sample language you can use in your will:
Specific Bequest
“I bequeath to Senior Center of West Seattle, a Washington state 501(c)3 organization, tax ID#23-7155008, the sum of $______ (or the description of an asset or ____ percent of my estate), for general support purposes.”
Residuary Bequest
“I bequeath the remainder of my estate (or ____ percent of my estate), both real estate and tangible personal property, to Senior Center of West Seattle, a Washington state 501(c)3 organization, tax ID#23-7155008, for general purposes.”
Contingent Bequest
“I bequeath the remainder of my estate (or ____ percent of my estate), both real estate and tangible personal property, to Senior Center of West Seattle, a Washington state 501(c)3 organization, tax ID#23-7155008, for general purposes if _________________ (name of beneficiary) does not survive me.”
If you are considering donating an outright gift or lifetime income gift, please contact us to discuss how to proceed. This includes donations of stocks, property, life insurance or retirement plans, charitable remainder trusts, and/or charitable lead trusts.
