Our Wonderful Judy Beach Donates $25,000 to Sustain Sea Mar Program
Judy Beach continues to live an amazing life. She had a long career in education, with a focus in bilingual education. Her passion for Spanish led her to study in Mexico, where she learned not only the language, but also the culture. This amazing woman savored the experiences she had with her students and their families and always went above and beyond for them. She was invited into their lives as they saw the beauty in her authentic, curious, and loving personality. Judy has lived her life to learn, help others, and be a loving mother.
After living 75 years in California, she made a life changing decision by moving to Seattle to be near her daughter, Jill. She moved into a little gem of an apartment in the Junction, where she could sit for hours and look out at the water and the Olympic Mountains. Also in view from her window, she could see the Senior Center of West Seattle. It was here that she quickly got involved and made some amazing friends. All of this confirmed her move was a good choice.
In June of 2018, while living her big life in her new home, Judy was diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer. When she shared this news with her three children, she said, “We will handle this with grace, love, and lots of laughter.” That is the way she lives her life.
As Judy has begun to plan for her end of life, she has chosen to show her gratitudeto the Senior Center for being such an important part of her transition.
Because of Judy’s passion for the Spanish language and Mexican culture, her gift will fund the Center’s partnership with Sea Mar’s Latino Senior Nutrition & Socialization Program from 2019-2021. The goal of this program is to help seniors enjoy nutritious meals, socialize, and benefit from health education opportunities so they can live better lives both physically and emotionally.
Thank you, Judy, for your generous donation of $25,000 and your desire to help the Center impact others’ lives as it has impacted yours.
